About

A bio. Hmm…What's a bio supposed to do? Give you an idea what the person (in my case this'd be an 'auto-bio') is like. So what is "Rob?"

I could go chronologically, and tell you that I was born in Okinawa, Japan, a navy brat. My Dad was flying airplanes off of aircraft carriers when he was 23, which to me is way more impressive than anything I've ever done. I lived for most of my more impressionable years in Berlin, which at the time was a walled fortress - a pretty cool place to grow up, though. Had you asked me at age 12 what I hoped to be when I grew up, I'd have told you, 'a major league ballplayer.' A few years later, once I'd realized the fact that I wasn't particularly big, strong or fast might hinder my big league prospects, I looked myself in the mirror (I actually did this - sorry), and asked,"what is it you really wanna do?" The answer came back twofold. One part of me considered (it was nearing the time to start applying for colleges) applying to the naval academy at Annapolis, shaving my head, and working to become an astronaut (I've always thought 'big'); my other self thought it'd be more fun to grow my hair, go to Berkeley, study law (masochist), but keep playing music, and maybe someday be a rock-star. Well, the Berkeley idea prevailed, but the music bug brought me to Southern Cal my sophomore year, to Berklee College of Music my junior, then back to Cal my senior year to finish up.
